Director of Photography (DOP): Music Video

This role presents a specific opportunity for an exceptional, up-and-coming Director of Photography (DOP) distinguished by a fresh and unique visual style to serve as the lead cinematographer for a music video for one of East Africa’s most acclaimed artists. You will be required to not only provide your expertise in high-quality visual capture but also bring your team (e.g., camera assistant, lighting technician/gaffer). You will be responsible for the entire visual execution of the music video on set – from camera operation and lighting design to managing your immediate crew – ensuring the final footage is technically superb and aligns perfectly with the artist’s creative vision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead Cinematography & Shooting: Act as the primary camera operator and Director of Photography. Responsible for shot composition, camera movement, lens choices, and capturing all principal footage.
• Visual Interpretation: Collaborate closely with the artist and management to understand the creative brief and translate it into a compelling visual style and execution plan.
• Team Provision & Management: Supply and manage your own professional shooting team. You are responsible for your team’s performance and coordination on set.
• Equipment Management: Provide or source the primary professional camera packages and essential lighting & grip equipment suitable for a high-end music video production. Ensure all gear is operational and appropriate for the project’s needs.
• Technical Quality Control: Ensure all captured footage meets high technical standards and artistic requirements.
• On-Set Leadership (Visuals): Lead the technical execution during filming days, directing your team efficiently to capture the planned shots.
• Collaboration: Work seamlessly with other production elements to ensure a cohesive final product.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Portfolio: A strong showreel and portfolio demonstrating exceptional skill as a Director of Photography / Cinematographer / Lead Videographer on high-quality music videos, commercials, or narrative films..
• Technical Expertise: Mastery of professional cinema cameras, lenses, lighting techniques, and grip equipment.
• Proven Team
• Artistic Vision: Strong aesthetic sense, eye for detail, and ability to craft compelling visuals that enhance storytelling.
• Kenyan Market Experience: Significant experience shooting professionally within Nairobi and Kenya, with an understanding of local logistics and resources.
• Professionalism: Excellent communication skills, reliability, and ability to work effectively under pressure and collaborate with high-profile talent.
